A colour pencil portrait WIP of Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne. Faber Castell Polychromos pencils on 220gsm smooth Bristol paper.

Took a small break from the sketching over the festive period. Working on too many drawings at the moment, hope to upload some more completed drawings soon. A bit belated but Happy New Year!

You have an amazing gift! I know because I've dabbled in penciling and if there's one thing I've learned it's that faces are the hardest part to get right... you have to capture their emotion and in order to do that you have to draw every line perfectly.

I only really discovered the versatility of pencils last year. Before that I've always painted in oil and watercolour but wanted to try and find a different media.
